Utah has always been a welcoming community to immigrants, but has noticeable problems for race, culture and religion that are born from ignorance and bias. To borrow words from Nikki Walker, “The only way we educate each other on what is happening, is to educate each other on what is happening.“
“DEI is an idea and a space to make people who have been traditionally under-represented. Diversity exists everywhere, but when it is not recognized or nurtured it can become a place of division. Equity is a choice. We need to understand what equity looks like to people and our community. Inclusion is the space where people feel their ideas and selves are worthy, and respected, and included.”
- I fully support DEI programs in our community, and especially in schools and the workplace.
- We need to fight attempts to repeal D&I programs. There is clearly an agenda pushed in 2024 to negatively frame D&I programs. See the Salt Lake Tribune article Cox touted his action on diversity, equity and inclusion goals. Now he says university DEI statements border on ‘evil.’, the Utah State Board of Education post USBE Contemplates Repeal of Educational Equity Rule – R277-328 Repeal that is being driven by this UT GOP RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF REPEALING R277-328 AND ALL CRT PRAXIS IN UTAH SCHOOLS.
- For those not familiar with the Utah Compact on Immigration, please take a moment to read it.
- Losing diversity is a losing business. Whether it’s our schools, our businesses, our professional teams, or within the community; failing to recognize the value of diversity in our spaces only hurts Utah.
- Currently, the GOP is introducing a crazy word salad that deliberately confuses and aggregates programs like CRT, DEI, ESG, SEL and other programs as divisive, or even evil. This is fear-mongering, and it is against some of the best intents of these programs. It is also disingenuous to Utahns and their families.
